1. Create the project

  1. On the start screen, click New project and choose the Ren’Py engine.
  2. Choose Translate a new game and the game folder (the one that contains the game folder).
  3. Click Analyse the game. When it finishes it asks where to save the project file (.tgp): save it wherever you like (for example on a USB drive or Google Drive to continue on another PC).

The app never touches the original game: it works on a copy.

2. Check the analysis

The Analysis tab shows the Ren’Py version, the languages the game already has, the .rpa archives and possible risks (for example for Android). If something can’t be done, it tells you why.

3. Choose languages and translate

  1. Go to Translate. The first time it asks which languages you want (you can pick several). The game’s texts are read automatically.
  2. Click Translate pending. With Google (free) it goes in parts, with pauses between requests; you can pause and resume later.
  3. Review the table: original on the left, translation on the right. You can fix any line by hand. Things that don’t need translating (code, links, numbers) are marked as «ignored» automatically.

Tip: add character names to the Glossary so they are always translated the same way (or not translated).

4. Validate

In Validate, click Run validation. Besides checking the translation, the automatic review plays the translated game by itself, measures texts that don’t fit and tests saving and loading. Double-click a problem to jump to that line.

If a line doesn’t fit, the Shrink font to fit button adjusts it (up to 30%).

5. Apply and export

Approved translations are written into the working copy with Apply to game. Then go to Export to build the patch, the PC game or the APK: see Export your translation.
